[edit] Former vs. Retired
When Joe Sestak retired from the Navy, he had not had his third star long enough to retire with it. It is incorrect to call him a retired 3 star admiral. While he was a 3 star admiral, he is a retired 2 star admiral. Therefore, you will often see him referred to as a "former" 3 star admiral as opposed to a "retired" one. Using former as opposed to retired avoids this semantic conflict. Rfmatthews 17:45, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
