I find the info. on Hoko very useful excspecial cause im writing a fanfiction with him/her/it as one of the base charies. :) I would like more info about the Hoko though... like what it's powers are... it'd be cool if it could use shadows like the Nara clan of Naruto*. :D

[edit] Five Tails and etc.

This article is about folklore. Please do not re-add unverifiable information about magic tails unless you can come up with a reference outside of popular culture (or youkaimura.org, which is not held to be reliable by the Japanese mythology team). Thank you. Kotengu 04:44, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

For the record, this is what the Japanese-language internet has to say about the Hoko:
This says when you cut a big camphor tree and blood comes out, the hoko is inside. It is the spirit of a tree.
This says it is the spirit of a tree. It has the form of a black dog with a :human face. It has no tail.
This says there is a tree spirit called Hoko with the form of a big dog with a human face.
This says the kodama is derived from the Chinese Hoko.
This says according to Toriyama Sekien, it lives in a thousand year old tree, has a shape like a black dog, has a face like a person's, and has no tail.
