Penuwch

Penuwch is a rural village in Ceredigion, West Wales. There is little recorded history, although most houses and farms date from the 1800s or earlier. Sarn Helen passes a couple of miles to the east and there is some evidence of quarrying in the more recent past. Sheep farming is the main agricultural activity, but cattle, horses, poultry and arable are all present.
It is about 1000 feet above sea level and 7 miles west of Tregaron while the coast is a similar distance further west. Tourism also plays a part in the local economy, while other residents will commute for work. It retains its pub, school and chapel. Llyn Fanod an upland lake and Site of Special Scientific Interest is nearby at Bontnewydd. Llyn Farch another upland lake with supposed connections to a prophecy by Merlin was still shown on Victorian maps just north of the village centre but is now an area of marsh.
