[edit] History
Established in 1957 in Falmouth, it moved to its present location in 1961, and attained Sports College status in 1998, the seventeenth school to do so.[3][4] A new building, set to replace the ageing block is currently under construction at the site, expected to replace the existing classrooms by September 2008. [5]
[edit] Academic standards
Its latest Ofsted rating was grade 1 (outstanding),[6] and the school has a "leading edge" designation from the Department for Children, Schools and Families.[3] Penryn College was listed as one of the hundred most improved schools by the Department for Education and Employment; other achievements include a South West Education Business Partnership Award, runner-up in the national "Family of Schools" Award, and the Sportsmark.[7]
[edit] Sporting connections
Olympic gold-medal winner Dame Kelly Holmes visited the school in November 2007 in her role as Schools Sports Ambassador.[8]
