[edit] Route description
PA 299 begins at an intersection with US 20 near downtown Erie. The route heads northwest as Powell Avenue, crossing the Staff Sergeant Jeremy R. Horton Memorial Bridge[2] [3], which replaced the Powell Avenue Bridge in 2006. [4]. PA 299 then passes directly west of the Erie International Airport before intersecting PA 5 (West 12th Street) northeast of the airport. PA 299 continues for two more blocks to PA 5 Alternate (West Lake Road), where the designation terminates; however, slightly northwest of this intersection, Powell Avenue continues several more blocks to the Lake Erie shoreline.
[edit] History
PA 290 was established by 1930 as a spur of Pennsylvania Route 99. PA 99 ran on what is now Pennsylvania Route 5 Alternate.[6]
