Pennsylvania Route 183 is a 30 mile long route that runs north to south in southeastern Pennsylvania. The southern terminus is at U.S. Route 422 Business in Reading. Its northern terminus is at Pennsylvania Route 61 in Schuylkill Haven.

PA 183 begins in downtown Reading as Third and Fronts Streets when meeting U.S. Route 422 Business. Northbound PA 183 begins as Third Street then Walnut Street while southbound PA 183 begins as Front Street then becomes Schuylkill Avenue. Northbound and Southbound PA 183 meet near the bridge that crosses the Schuylkill River as Schuylkill Avenue. PA 183 has detours that lead passengers to Pennsylvania Route 12 that runs under PA 183. North of Reading in Bern Township, PA 183 becomes Bernville Road and passes by Reading Regional Airport. Northwest of the airport, PA 183 meets U.S. Route 222 at an interchange. In Penn Township south of Bernville, PA 183 (Bernville Road) passes by Blue Marsh Lake, a popular lake for swimming, fishing, and outdoor activities. In Strausstown, PA 183 meets former U.S. Route 22 the Hex Highway. Also in Strausstown, PA 183 intersects Interstate 78 and U.S. Route 22 at exit 19. In Bethel Township, PA 183 meets the northern terminus of Pennsylvania Route 419.

As PA 183 enters Schuylkill County, it is called Fair Road. In Wayne Township, PA 183 meets PA 895. North of PA 895, PA 183 meets Pennsylvania Route 443. In Cressona, PA 183 is called Chestnut Street then Sillyman Street and meets the eastern terminus of Pennsylvania Route 901. As Pottsville Street, in Cressona and N. Mainheim Township, less than a mile north of Schuylkill Haven, PA 183 terminates (ends) at a "T" intersection with Pennsylvania Route 61 formally called Connor's Crossing. PA 183 crosses the Schuylkill River at Connor's Crossing.
