The Pennsylvania Pit Bulls is an American Basketball Association (ABA) team based in Pittsburgh. The team began play in the fall of 2004. The Pit Bulls were essentially the Pittsburgh Hardhats, who folded prior to the season due to money problems. They finished in 7th place in the blue division with an 8-9 record. They did not make the playoffs.
The Pit Bulls are most noted for the tragic and untimely death of their head coach, Tom Washington, in the team's home opener against the Maryland Nighthawks. Upon his death, Pat Blue assumed coaching duties.
The Pit Bulls played a majority of their home games at Penn State McKeesport, but later moved games to McKeesport High School. Despite rumors of their demise, the team reported aired advertisements on the local Fox Sports Network.
