Penlop is a Dzongkha term which can be roughly translated as governor. Bhutanese penlops, prior to unification, controlled certain districts of the country, but are now subservient to the House of Wangchuck. The King of Bhutan is still sometimes referred to as the Penlop of Trongsa, as this was the original position held by the House of Wangchuck.
