Pendembu is the second largest town of Kailahun District in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. The town population was estimated to be 35,300 at the 2004 census. The majority of Pendembu's population are from the Mende ethnic group. The Mandingo make up the second largest ethnic group in the town. The most widely spoken language in the town is Krio and Mende language. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, the former President of Sierra Leone, was born and raised in Pendembu.
