The pencil cardinalfish, Epigonus denticulatus, is a deepwater cardinalfish of the family Epigonidae, found circumglobally in all oceans, at depths of between 130 and 830m. Its length is up to 20 cm.
The pencil cardinalfish is very similar to the bulls-eye but has 7 instead of 8 spines in the first dorsal fin.
