[edit] Copyright violation?

I think this is a copyright violation. The fair use rationale claims that it is a low-resolution version of the image, but it is high enough resolution to see every relevant detail. (I think it may be the original resolution as published.) Thoughts? --P3d0 02:04, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to speculate a little and say that the creators of this comic are probably flattered that its being sampled here, especially since (1) they seem pretty familiar with Wikipedia, (2) they took the wikipedia trademark for their own comic (not to mention Mattel, but that's another story), (3) they're usually pretty good about this stuff (from my other encounters not on this website)...I'm sure they'd say something if it's not kosher. This is more of an ad for them anyway. Since this is a web-based comic it's also hard to make it low-res without intentionally going in and messing with the image. Bobak 15:17, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I accept all of that. So what? The fair use rationale is still wrong. Sounds like we could get one of the creators to license the image under the GFDL. (As for "intentionally going in and messing with the image", um, as far as I know, that's exactly what you're supposed to do if you want to use the "low res" rationale.) --P3d0 17:27, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

This should be fair use in the Penny Arcade article, but if someone would like to upload a lower resolution version that is fine with me. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 17:40, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Could we email the creators and ask if they'd be fine with a Fair-Use on this combo of image/article? If they say "yes" by email, then what (do I write "they said so")? I don't think this requires the them giving a GDFL, as my law professor used to say "You don't need to use a bazooka on a jack-a-lope". Bobak 17:56, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

I'll email people on the PA crew, see if they care. Slower time over there now I would think, so they may respond. LeilaniLad 00:14, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I got a response from Robert Khoo. He said they were "perfectly fine" with us using their comic in this form. LeilaniLad (talk) 11:12, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Copy Vio

This image has been copyrighted by Mike Krahulik (sp?) and Jerry Hulkins as shown on the image, my understanding of this is , as they are the copyright holders, they alone can give permission for this to be used here . The above message states permission, but not from either gentleman. Would this not still make this image a copyvio ? KoshVorlon....Straight outta Vorlon Space !!!! ' 16:51, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Robert Khoo runs all of PA's business, and, presumably, most of their trivial legal matters such as this. If he says it's good, then he's likely asked Tycho and Gabe and got their permission. Schmloof (talk) 18:15, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
