Enough to stir passions that photo - excellent! SatuSuro 09:39, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey the bottom line on the tasmap art is we dont need tech info - just that it exists and is the govt current equivalent of what all the old state lands and surveys depts that all now call themselves fancy non state oriented corporate identities (i mean what originally was the lands and surveys here in wa is now landgate)- it is more important in my opinion to get a stub up which we can link to so what a non oz and geographically challenged outside reader can click on the link and have it explained what tasmap is - no necessary condition on whether it uses oz adg 94 or whatever - hey maybe ill start it a bit later tonight. [edit] Maps

Hi, Just in case you don't see it, I left the message below on your Commons talk page:

You've apparently obtained permission to publish many maps such as Image:Ragoona Map GPS.jpg However in the licensing section you've got a license which says "I, the copyright holder of this work, hereby publish it under the following licenses" Since you are not the copyright holder, you cannot use this license template to specify the license for these maps.

Please carefully read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Details of the publication permission must be lodged with the Wikimedia Communications committee. Unless the images comply with the Wikipedia policy, they will have to be deleted.

Ok it looks like PSMA probably does have authority to license maps as required by wikipedia, so it seems that the remaining problem is that they didn't specify a license for the screen-shots. Without information about the license, it is impossible to know whether you can release derivatives under GDL or CC licenses. These licenses effectively allow the images to be used anywhere, for any purpose, which may not be what was intended by the person at PSMA.
As an example, if the screenshots were GDL or CC licensed, then it would be perfectly within the licenses to take screenshots of an entire country, and stitch them together into a map containing the entire dataset. (although it would take rather a long time!)
Another possible problem is that PSMA own copyright on the dataset, but Magellan probably may own some copyright over the rendering of it, or of symbols drawn over it and stuff outside the map window.
Perhaps you could ask PSMA to clarify their assent as per Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission#Declaration of consent for all enquiries

One of our very respected admins has put ref tags on some of the mountains - dont worry I'll find some real easy - it just a matter of a day or two and ill get em - no big deal - cheers SatuSuro 13:20, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Sorry my chronic chaotic editing will probable see the refs a few days later than i expected - no problems - some tags stay for half a year and no one does anything - ill get something within the week i hope - cheers SatuSuro 23:35, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
