[edit] Full name

Can anybody say definitively whether his name was Pelham George or Pelham Grenville? Websites devoted to the Royal Engineers and England soccer players seem to prefer George (though the official FA site is silent on the matter), as does one of P G Wodehouse's biographers (Phelps) and the index to the Wodehouse Society's Plum Lines. Two Wodehouse biographers (Donaldson and Jasen) give it as Grenville (though Jasen's accuracy is suspect: he calls von Donop "Colonel", but he was only a lieutenant when PGW was born).

Unless there is verifiable evidence one way or another, I propose that this article should be renamed as "Pelham von Donop", dropping the reference to the second name (but mentioning it in the text perhaps). Jimmy Pitt (talk) 23:54, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Answering my own question, I've located his obituary in the Times (8 November 1921), which gives his name as Pelham George von Donop; as his funeral was attended by his widow, a sister and three brothers -- all of whom presumably knew his correct name -- it's unlikely that the Times got it wrong. On the strength of this, I've moved the page and amended linking pages (in namespace only) accordingly. Jimmy Pitt (talk) 14:40, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Football career

I have removed editorial comments such as "won easily" and "achieved a well-deserved success", which, while fine in a sports book, are inappropriate in an encyclopedia. Jimmy Pitt (talk) 11:45, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
