Pelorus Island is one of the islands in the Great Palm Island group. It is located just north of Orpheus Island. Pelorus is surrounded by spectacular fringing reefs that can be accessed by snorkeling right off the beach. Camping is permitted on Pelorus Island, however there are no camping facilities or freshwater on the island.

On behalf of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), Canstruct Pty Ltd designed and constructed a navigation structure and helipad to service the structure, on top of the Island.

The island is a National Park and has a pristine and fragile environment, which is fully protected by both state and federal environmental provisions. The Aboriginal name for the island is Yanooa Island.

Numerous tour boat companies use the island as a picnic stopover en route to the Great Barrier Reef.
