[edit] Additions and remodeling

Pelham has seen lots of remodeling over the years. In 1980 a bandroom was added. In 1990 a new auditorium and gym were built and the library, cafeteria, and main gym were remodeled. In 2002 a twenty classroom addition, that includes a choir room and journalism lab, was constructed. In the spring of 2007, Pelham followed suit of other area schools, such as Vestavia Hills High School, and installed artificial turf on their football field. The controversial turf project cost about US$700,000.[3]

[edit] Sports

  • Football - The Pelham Panthers football team is currently led by head coach Brett Burnett. He has coached the team since the 2005 season. In 2006 the Panthers were region 5 champs and made it to the third round of the Alabama 6A playoffs. The team was also featured on MTV's Two-A-Days as one of Hoover High School's opponents.
  • Baseball - The Pelham Panthers were 6A Alabama State champions in baseball in 2004 [4] coached by ex-MLB player, Mike O'Berry.[5] [6] The 2004 baseball team was the first team to win a state title out of the 3 major sports: baseball, basketball, and football. Under O'Berry, the Panthers made national rankings: Preseason #3-2003, Finished #14-2004, Preseaon #16-2005. Playing in one of the toughest regions in the southeast, Region 6 (Hoover, Spain Park, Pelham, Oak Mountain, Mountain Brook, Vestavia, Thompson)[7] and also playing top Atlanta teams(Lassiter, Roswell, North Cobb, Cenntinial) lead to the national recognition.
