Yes |
Purpose of use |
Iconic representation of the subject. See #8 of the list of uses for non-free images. The painting is exhibited at Volcanoes National Park and has iconic status. Per the artist's website, "In 2003 the Volcanoes National Park, with . . . a judging panel of highly respected kupuna (Hawaiian elders, teachers and leaders), held a competition to see which artist in Hawai’i could paint the best new version of the Goddess Pele. . . . I won the competition, to my intense surprise. So now my painting of the ancestral deity hangs permanently at the visitors’ center in the park!" [1] |
Replaceable? |
Possible. However, the standing of the image - its use at the visitors' center and selection by the elders - may make this image more appropriate than a non-free image. |
