Peggy Sue Got Married is a West End musical adapted from the Francis Ford Coppola film of the same name. It opened on August 20, 2001 at the Shaftesbury Theatre but closed on October 31 of the same year despite receiving mostly positive reviews[1] praising Ruthie Henshall's performance[2]. The early closing was said to be due to the reduced numbers of people visiting London after the events of 9/11, during which many theatrical shows in West End performed poorly.[3] The musical featured Ruthie Henshall as Peggy Sue of the title, a role that earned her an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. The book was written by Arlene Sarner and Jerry Leichtling, music composed by Bob Gaudio, lyrics by Jerry Leichtling and directed by Kelly Robinson.
