Peggy Fortnum

Peggy Fortnum (born Margaret Emily Noel Nuttall-Smith 1919 in Harrow, Middlesex [1] ) is an English illustrator. She worked as an art teacher, painter, and textile designer before becoming a full-time book illustrator. She has illustrated nearly sixty-five books to date. Fortnum resides in Essex, England. Her most well-known character is Paddington Bear.[2]
Although her distinctive pen and ink drawings of Paddington were originally done in black and white, some of her work has subsequently been coloured by other artists, including her own niece, Caroline Nuttal-Smith.
