[edit] Wisden Trophy
Want to bring this article to GA status and am requesting a review of the article. If my page is not good enough for GA status please tell me why so I can carry out the improvements. This is a cricket article so any keen cricketers might want a look at this.Monsta666 15:42, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
The article is a bit shallow and doesn't always focus on the right things. To take Wisden_Trophy#Early_series_1966-69 as an example
- The next series would be in 1966 which the West Indies won 3-1. The first Wisden Trophy in the West Indies took place in 1967-68 season. The fourth Test at Queen's Park Oval was the only Test with a conclusive result which England won to win the series 1-0. The 1969 tour consisted of three Tests were the captains of the series were Ray Illingworth for England and Garry Sobers for West Indies. England won the first Test comfortably at Old Trafford by 10 wickets.[11] The second Test at Lord's ended in a draw while England won the final Test at Headingley winning the series 2-0.
Here the results of the three Tests in 1969 are all mentioned while there is almost nothing of the first two. Infact, 1969 by far the least significant of the three. The 1967-68 series saw what is probably the most famous declaration in Test cricket, a crowd riot, and two great finishes. 1966 had arguably the greatest all-round performance by someone in Test cricket (Sobers - 722 runs, 20 wickets and 10 catches) and three English captains.
This kind of thing exists throughout the article. 1976 mentions Richards six times in about ten sentences, as if no one else did anything else, etc.

- I'll look at the Wisden articles for more info and try and focus more on the first and 1966 tours. I expanded this quite quickly and as a result got a bit lazy at times. Everything before 1980 needs to be revised more thoroughly. I feel the trophies after 1980 are generally alright, (tho the 2000 tour might need a bit of work as it was significant). Thanks anyways. - For the pre-1980 era, catch User:Johnlp or User:JHall1 if you need help, but please don't tell them that it was I who asked you to contact them :-) Tintin 08:40, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

- Yes i would appreciate any help, this is my first article and I am learning the ropes so to speak. So if there is anything wrong, sort it out. I want the page to reach GA status. Monsta666 15:22, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

- Actually, you're making really good progress on this from where you were only a few hours ago. The cross-references to the articles on the individual series mean that you can be fairly brief about each series. That means you can reserve most of your comments to the outstanding performances and to those series where the final destination of the trophy was in doubt (and where it changed hands). I'll look in properly over the weekend when I may have more time. :-) Johnlp 20:52, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Maybe a closer reading of the Wisden reports will help. Tintin 04:14, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- I removed one picture but there are several more which are very irrelevant. Stuff like "Pieterson's debut", "Bell's debut", "Ramprakash's pair" and "Tresco's debut". If Atherton is there, it should be because he captained England against WI in most matches (17), not because he became the captain "at the beginning of a tour". What we need are pictures that have significance in this context - Richards, Ambrose, Lara, the 400* and Atherton - not the rest. Tintin 04:28, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- The problem is there are far fewer pictures of West Indian players than English ones. I would love to put Gary Sobers or Malcolm Marshall/Joel Garner but there are no pics of these cricketers. I feel I can't leave the whole article blank, any ideas? Monsta666 08:06, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

- I've expanded the early series (1966-1974) as you said. As for the 1976 Viv Richard series I can't include every batsmen ton or bowlers 5 wicket haul and have only included remarkable feats. In this series it just happened to be Richards who was producing these feats. If you are still unhappy please make the necessary changes. Monsta666 16:43, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

- I done everything you suggested Tintin (expanded the important series and removed irrelevant pictures) and am hoping for a second opinion on the page. Please read so I can improve it further. Monsta666 19:52, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
