[edit] --Award--
Hi, Pedia-I! Thanks for the award, it's very kind of you! :) I'm not sure what I did to deserve it xD but thanks.
Oh, and also, in future, you should probably give people their awards on their talk pages - otherwise you don't get the little 'new messages' bar, and you don't know about it!
Take care, riana_dzasta 05:18, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hello Pedia. Thanks a lot for the award. It was a very heart-warming gesture. Please continue to help Wikipedia and Humanity, in general.
- As riana has pointed out, please try to give awards in the talk pages, rather than user pages. Thanks again. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:23, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

- Hi there, and thanks for the award! I shall try to live up to what the award represents. As for where the award should go, yeah, it should go on the talk page, yadda yadda yadda. Thanks again! --Kyoko 14:37, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- My thanks too! --plange 05:46, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

The awards that I've seen have always been placed on the recipient's user page rather than the talk page, so I'm a bit confused by the above suggestions. Pedia-I 09:20, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
-
- Thanks for the award, it was very nice of you :) As far as where to add the award, I would echo those above... put it on their talk pages. Folks will then move the award on their own accord to the location on their userpage where they want it.
-
- Also, I took the liberty of "fixing up" the award a little. Here's the code:
-
- <div STYLE="clear:right; float:right; width:300px; background-color:#f9f0C9; border: 1px solid #888850; padding:2px;"><small>For your contributions to Wikipedia and humanity in general, you are hereby granted the coveted <B>Random Smiley Award</b><BR>by <font color="darkblue" size="-1" face="Constantia">Pedia-I</font> <font color="blue">Project</font> <FONT COLOR="#00FF00">J</FONT><FONT COLOR="#44FF00">e</FONT><FONT COLOR="#99DD11">s</FONT><FONT COLOR="#DDDD11">u</FONT><FONT COLOR="#DDDD11">s</FONT> <BR>(Explanation and Disclaimer)</DIV>
-
- As you can see, I made it float right and clear right, so that it'll always be up against the right margin. I also removed the thumb frame so that the smiley blends in more with the box. Hope this helps a little ;) Also, are you aware that you can add the award to people's pages by just using a tag, like so?: . --Wolf530 07:14, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

-
- About the "tag" - I suggest that you use subst: in it so that it pastes to their user page. . Also, I agree with the above about talk page instead of user page. While you seem to have great intentions, I've found that some editors find it impolite to edit their userpage except for minor editing like dabs and syntax. Considering the theme of your award, you might like to join Esperanza and/or the Kindness Campaign. Hope you have a great day : ) - jc37 18:51, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Since this is a Yellow Smiley related discussion, you mean "Have A Nice Day!" (tm), don't you?
- I submitted the Smiley Project to the two pages you suggested. Hopefully some people will volunteer. Pedia-I 21:43, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

There I was sitting staring at the screen, and getting a headache, when your Smiley Award popped up! Thank you! Thats my first award on wiki, it made my day! Richard Harvey 17:58, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
I haven't received one of your random awards, but I've seen a couple people who have and I'd like to make a suggestion/comment on the formatting. If you were to remove the thumb tag from the smilie image and just leave the 90px, it would get rid of the thumbnail frame that currently extends outside of the award's box. --tjstrf talk 21:34, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- I think the thumbnail was removed on the newer versions of the Smiley, but I can check to make certain. I can also give you a Smiley. Pedia-I 22:35, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- The one at User:Pedia-I/SmileyAward still uses it. And thanks for the smile, it goes nicely with my whatever-the-heck-it-is. --tjstrf talk 22:52, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Smiley
Howdy! I appreciate the sentiment behind the smiley graphic you left on my talk page, but I'd like to share a couple of quick concerns. First, indiscriminate blasting out of awards, even with the best intentions, might have the unintended side effect of, well, "cheapening" the feeling. Second, there's a real possibility that if a person were to primarilly just send these out, they might create the impression that they are spamming usertalk pages to advertise a pet project. I'm sure that wasn't your goal, but it's a real perception issue you should be aware of. Finally, I'm concerned that when I looked at your contribution history, only a couple of the edits on the first page had to do with something other than the awards. Please keep in mind that the purpose of the project is to create an encyclopedia and be careful not to fall into the common trap of letting the social aspects of the project overwhelm the encyclopedic ones. I hope this letter finds you well and is received in the spirit with which it was sent. Best regards, - CHAIRBOY (☎) 20:24, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SmileAward
Thank you for the talk page surprise : )
- (I like the cookie one the best, good choice : )
I modified it somewhat to work in userbox/babel box formatting. (Modified version here.) If you would like help converting the others, I would be happy to help : )
- Thanks again, and have a great day : ) - jc37 04:41, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- And now a customisable userbox version of the general one. Enjoy : ) - jc37 06:40, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Many thanks for the improved Random Smiley templates. I can incorporate those into the collection of standard Smileys. - Pedia-I 18:48, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- Glad you enjoyed them : )
- If you would like help updating your current templates, I would be happy to.
- The main thing to consider for allowing them to be used in conjunction with userbox/babel box organisational templates is to make sure that the width of the awards is 238px. And for the smileys that you use (accompanied with the amount of text), an image size of 80px (or possibly even 90px) seems to work best. The rest was just custom fun : ) - jc37 19:16, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I would never expect such a thing from what he wrote on User:Pedia-I/SmileyAward. Is there any chance his IP could be shared (I know mine is shared with someone in another state)? Tcrow777 talk 00:45, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] very unlikely
It seems very unlikely that the maker of the smiley awards etc is the Joan of Arc vandal, IMHO. I wish these bans had actually been done using checkuser. As it is we probably lost another good faith contributor, who in fact worked hard for the Kindness Campaign.Merkinsmum 02:14, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

- apparently a checkuser was done, but it seems very random- what a shame!.Merkinsmum 02:20, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
