[edit] Biography

Marín debuted on the popular music scene in Spain as a teen idol in the early 1980s with hits such as "Que no" and "Aire." He scored number one hits in Spain, Mexico and Portugal, top 5 hits in Argentina, and was also popular in Colombia, Peru, France and Germany, selling more than 2 million records in three years. By the end of that decade, however, he had all but retired from the music business. During the 1990s, he worked in banking and finance in England and West Africa.[1]

However, beginning in 2005, Marín returned to the public spotlight. He appeared in a Survivor-styled reality TV program, variously known as La selva de los famosos or La isla de los famosos, for the Spanish television network Antena 3.

That same year, Marín recorded a new song, "Run Baby Run," which was a cover version of a song first popularized in 1978 by Amanda Lear, a European model, disco singer, TV presenter, and gay icon in continental Europe. Marín has revealed that he is gay and has spoken out about gay rights issues.[1] He has appeared at a number of gay pride events in Spain since coming out.

In 2006, Marín released a new full-length CD, Diamonds, in which he paid further tribute to Lear's disco-era oeuvre with electro cover versions of hits such as "Queen of Chinatown," "Follow Me," "Fashion Pack," and "Enigma," among others. The album also included "Run Baby Run," previously released on a compilation CD, as well as several remixes.

With the success of Diamonds, Marín recorded a new album in 2007, Pulpo negro. Unlike Diamonds, which was recorded in English, Pulpo negro was recorded in Spanish. The album features a Spanish-language recording of one of Amanda Lear's better-known songs, "Follow Me." The Spanish version is entitled "(Ven) Sígueme."

Also in 2007, Marín recorded a new, electropop version of his 1980 hit, "Aire."
