Pedro Escobar

Pedro Escobar, also known as Pêro Escobar, was a 15th century Portuguese explorer who discovered São Tomé and Príncipe together with João de Santarém. In 1471, working for Fernão Gomes, he helped discover the traffic in gold at Mina. He is then recorded sailing with Diogo Cão on his first voyage in 1482, as pilot of the Bérrio on Vasco da Gama’s expedition in 1497, and also on Cabral’s discovery of Brazil in 1500.
