DFL - Cyclingnews - Litespeed (UCI Team Code: DFL) is a former professional cycling team that was based in the United Kingdom and participated in UCI Continental Circuits races. Their team leader for 2007 was Belgian Nico Mattan, and their squad also included 2006 British national champion, Hamish Haynes. Since August 2006, Former professional classics specialist Eric Vanderaerden is a directeur sportif with the team.[1] For the 2008 season the team wanted to become a professional continental team. In its preparation for this the team signed former ProTour riders Steffan Wesemann[2] and Bas Giling[3]. The team also had a verbal agreement with Marc Lotz but the owner of Pedaltech canceled this agreement as he wished to sign two British professionals instead.[4] However the UCI did not grant the team the professional continental licence.[5] After this happened, several sponsors that had intended on being involved with the team pulled out, including Musseuw bikes[6] and Cyclingnews.com. Then team manager and main sponsor discovered that he had cancer and that he could not run the team[7] after which the team collapsed and the riders had to look for other teams.[8] [9]
