Peccia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Peccia is one of six small Swiss municipalities which merged in April 2004 to form the commune of Lavizzara, with about 1000 people. The other municipalities were Broglio, Brontallo, Fusio, Menzonio, and Prato-Sornico.
Peccia is a village in the Valle Maggia. In 1984 a sculpting school was established in Peccia. The students work mostly with marble from a local quarry, the only place in Switzerland where marble is quarried. This marble was used when the church of Mogno (a hamlet of Fusio) was rebuilt by Mario Botta, after the old church was destroyed by an avalanche in 1986.
