[edit] Pearl diving

Please link appropriately with the page about Pearl diving (Pearl hunting). This would seem helpful, but I am myself not a expert in this topic. So if you are one, please add this connection. Thanks. 83.76.179.107 15:05, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

not have a computer

Answer: The term Japanese Pearls is no longer used. This used to refer to Japanese Akoya pearls and pearls from Lake Biwa. But today Lake Biwa no longer produces pearls, and the Japanese Akoya pearl industry is dying - the Japanese are now importing Akoya from China, stringing them, and selling them as "made in Japan". But in reality they are now simply Akoya pearls. The Japanese pearl oyster is the Akoya, or Pinctada fucata martensii. This oyster is still used in Japan, China, and a few other countries to culture pearls.
