Though it is called a puma, the actual mascot suit is a panther. It is unknown if the mascot was accidentally confused or chosen on purpose.
The Puma mascot was chosen by the students of the school. Peak to Peak had originally been known as the Phoenix. In 2002 the school put it to the students to make a change, and the student body chose the Black Puma as their mascot.
