Peace Island (Huajiachi)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peace Island (Chinese: 和平岛), is an island located in the Huajiachi, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, People's Republic of China.

[edit] Introduction

The island is located in the Hujiachi (in Huajiachi Campus, Zhejiang University), which is the second largest lake in Hangzhou after the famous West Lake.

The island was naturally formed at beginning, but enlarged artificially. In 1980s-1990s, some Chinese pavilion and traditional architectures were started being built on the island. Currently it has two Chinese pavilions and some statues, with a small forest.

People can have rest on the island and view the beautiful landscapes both of the lakes and the campus. During the old time, there was an annual sport event - boat race being held in Hujiachi, and the spectators, cheerleaders and judges could settle down on the island. [1]

In the essays by the Zhejiang University alumni and other Hangzhou writers, they always mention this beautiful small island, so it's also a common literature topic.
