Peace Cup

The Peace Cup is a football tournament organized by the Sunmoon Peace Football Foundation, which is connected to Reverend Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church, which aspires to use the competition between clubs from several continents to promote world peace. It has been held every two years in South Korea, starting in 2003, and in 2009 it will be in Spain. Previous winning teams have included PSV Eindhoven, Tottenham Hotspur and Lyon. In 2006, a women's tournament, called the Peace Queen Cup, was created, featuring 8 women's national teams from 5 continents. The United States team won.

The competition is played between eight clubs, divided in two groups of four teams each. Peace Cup Organising Committee will enlarge the number of participating teams to 12 from 2009 Peace Cup in Spain. In the first stage, within their groups the teams play against each other once, and the winner of each group qualifies for the final, which is played in one single match. Peace Cup will be held in Andalusia, Spain. Seville, Malaga, Madrid, Jerez and Huelva will be the main stadia for Peace Cup 2009.

The prize money of the tournament is approximately $2,000,000 for the winning team and $500,000 for the runners-up.
