Peñafiel is regarded as the oldest mineral water bottling company in Mexico. It was founded by the Peñafiel family in Tehuacán, Puebla, around 1928. Since then the town has become famous because of its natural springs. Peñafiel water is highly mineralized with heavy carbonation.

Recently, the whole company was bought by the international Cadbury-Schweppes Beverages emporium.
