I am fascinated by the potential of the Internet and online communities, especially in terms of discovering and coordinating information, mobilizing people, building networks and organizations, and governance.
My background is in social science research; organizational strategy, planning, fundraising, evaluation, and communications.
From 2000 to 2006, I worked as a social science researcher and administrator at the Brookings Institution, a public policy think tank located in Washington DC. I was a research analyst for the first five issues of the Brown Center Report on American Education (2000-2004). I also served as the administrator for the National Working Commission on Choice in K-12 Education.
In the summer of 2004, I began researching Internet-based organizations and their activities.
Blau Exchange, my current project, spans themes found in the social sciences, entrepreneurship, journalism, and information and communications technology.
I like to ask questions about..
- the social impact of Internet organizations, examining their activities and the individuals leading them
- the direction and effects of Internet policy and governance
My current affiliations are..

Today I live and work in Indianapolis. I was raised in Pittsburgh, and my roots have been in Western PA.
