[edit] Carl de Boor

Welcome, and thanks for your additions to Carl R. de Boor, one of the best people in my specialization (numerical analysis). However, I'm worried about some of the personal stuff you're adding. How interesting is Carl's cooking?

It appears from your username that you are family, and hence you may draw from personal experience. Unfortunately, Wikipedia can only accept information that is already been published by reliable and reputable sources; see Wikipedia:Verifiability. Do you have any references, for instance interviews, that we can quote?

Jitse,

There is an interview published in a newsletter of the Institute for Mathematical Sciences at the National University of Singapore. Here is a link

http://www.ims.nus.edu.sg/publications-imp.htm.

I'm not sure how one does references in wikipedia, neither as to the mechanism nor as to the style. As to the first point, I think his cooking is as interesting as Don Knuth's organ playing, which I don't believe anyone has taken objection to. Perhaps if you had tasted his creme caramel, you would feel differently...

Also, I don't believe i have added a great deal of personal stuff (others may have).

Sincerely, Peter de Boor 15:10 EDT 23 June 2006

Thanks for your reply. I added the Singapore interview to the article. Don't worry too much about style; if it is wrong, others will correct it and you will learn by example. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions. -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 04:24, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Jitse,

Thanks for adding that reference, and I think the reference section works much better the way you've organized it. Thank you

Sincerely, Peter de Boor 23:10 EDT 29 June 2006
