From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Note that this tag is specifically for items that you know FOR CERTAIN to have been released into the public domain by their creators -- not for images that have entered PD due to copyright expiration (use {{PD-Old}}), or images that you have created yourself (use {{PD-self}}). Please include all evidence you have that creator desires the image to be public domain on the image description page.
This tag will place images into Category:Copyright holder released public domain images.

[edit] (or is hereby)

It seems to me now that the words "(or is hereby)" should not belong in this template. I fear that including these words may make some users think that OTRS confirmation is not required. —Remember the dot (talk) 00:09, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Then shouldn't the template say that OTRS confirmation is required? — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:23, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

- Sorry, I wasn't very clear. A user can't release someone else's work into the public domain by adding this template. Thus, the phrase "or is hereby" doesn't make sense. We need a statement from the copyright holder, whether through OTRS or posted on the source web site. I was hoping to clarify this by having the phrase "or is hereby" removed. —Remember the dot (talk) 03:33, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
