[edit] Visit Payson? Maybe not...

I was thinking of a road trip up to Payson and was pleased to find an entry in Wikipedia until I read the section on Culture, which I think contains too many opinions to be encyclopedic, regardless of citations. In light of the other comnments and examples in this section, I wonder if someone is determined to present Payson in a bad light.

"The area is well known for the cultivaion of Cannabis Sativa. Some of the Largest fields in the United States have been found there. [4]

The use, distribution, and manufacture of d-N-methylamphetamine in the area is extremely heavy.[5]

A heavy concentration of registered sex offenders live in the area. Including individuals who impersonate minors and even register as students in the local schools..[6]"

[edit] Some debated content

Okay, here we go, I've pasted in below the content that's been added several times. My main objection is the colloquial tone and overall unencyclopaedic quality. I'm open to discussion though - so is there anything in particular about all of this that you want to see added; that you think the article is currently lacking? This is just to get the ball rolling. --PeruvianLlama(spit) 06:05, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Please don't delete anything beyond this point like in past times. It is violating the American's first amendment by suppressing the voice of another. The following account is to better the knowledge of current and/or future residents. For details on how to safely and peacefully edit this page without oppression, please read towards the bottom of this page. Thank you.

Now for a brief description of the Payson area. The town is a pleasant and peaceful place to inhabit. It is, yes, a retired persons' sanctuary, but nonetheless, much of the town consists of young, active people. The beautiful scenery is enough for anyone to move here in a blink. The gorgeous Mogollon Rim surrounds the town to the North, glistening brightly during a winter storm. Three golf courses exist within the area, but two of them are owned and operated by private country clubs.

Off Roaders will be pleased to know that there are many local roads suitable for extreme four-wheeling. Jeep and ATV owners will be in their glory. A Chapman Jeep service shop is also locally available for accidents and the like. Being an Jeep guy myself, I know what I'm talking about.Owners of big trucks will also be pleased to know that while most of the forest roads are too low and narrow for big rigs, adequate desert trails are not more than 10 miles away from the area, and hotspots in the Four Peaks region are found within an hour's drive.

Now onto some local culture. Music is wide and diverse in the Payson area. Most of the city's populars prefer to listen to a mixture of heavy metal and hard rock, including famous bands such as ACDC, Metallica, Slayer, Guns 'N Roses, System of a Down, and Pantera. These people are considered highly popular and rightly so. The vast minority of residents of the Rim Country tend to listen to retarded music such as Kanye West and Ashlee Simpson. Anything Pop or Rap can be considered inferior to the majority of citizens. Rock is indeed king within the 85541 zip code.

Schooling in the Payson region is considered inferior just as in the remainder of the state of Arizona. Attempts at reconstruction are demolished by a set few which they call the School Board. They are narrow minded individuals who do not possess a pitch in their voice that will benefit the town's future leaders. Strict as they may be, their immature, unintellectual (yes, i know, BIG word) minds are displayed through the decadent strategy of their leadership. The Student Government course at Payson High School is a huge waste of God's granted time. Students are to be seen and not heard. A totalitarian dictatorship is in strong standing within the Payson Unified School District and is not soon to be changed. I can only imagine the state that our beautiful school would be in if the rules and dictations were not so black and white and without proper guidance, whether it be by professionals or by extensive student survey. Money is spent where not needed, and when money is needed, it is spent on the most inexpensive materials money can purchase that inevitably break within a few years, making the problem repeat itself more rapidly. I know that I might be indeed trashing the name of many, but nevertheless, my account is 100% accurate. I challenge one person to rebut what I have just stated. Not even that. I challenge you to just imagine one thing, that is false, which I have proclaimed. Just send it to my email below, and I will post it.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments, don't delete my scrit but please email me at jonsiebob@yahoo.com. NOTE: This is a group email shared by many (hey, it was free), so any one of the subscribers to this email may read it and not the author of this script. Any interesting remarks will be guaranteed posted on this page. That way every person has a voice. Editing the page back to the date of 2000 will not benifit the town or its people. Thank you.

I've read carefully through the above, and weeded out everything that was overtly non-NPOV or irrelevant. I was left with this:

The Mogollon Rim lies to the North of town. Three golf courses exist within the area, two of which are owned and operated by private country clubs.

I have since added this back into the main article. Thoughts? --PeruvianLlama(spit) 06:31, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
