[edit] Buffyverse Wikia

Hello Pax, as you may already know, I've joined the Buffyverse Wikia created by Angela. I'd like to invite you to take a look around and help any way you see fit.--Gonzalo84 05:06, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the invite. I will have a look around in the coming weeks -Paxomen 15:51, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Buffyverse

Hey, thanks for the heads-up. It looks like a really good article actually. I may have been to quick to vote delete, I noticed I was doing that the other day and have since changed a lot of my voting practices. By they way, if anyone votes to delete because it is either non-notable or fancruft then be sure to point out that neither of those is sufficient reason for deletion. The notability policy is an essay, not a guidline and fancruft states that those articles are almost always deleted due to other reasons because just being fancruft is not reason enough. Good luck and I'll be changing my vote now. Konman72 21:02, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Looks like you don't need to much luck, the votes have turned in your favor. Excellent job on the rewrite and thanks for making me pay more attention, I won't be so fast to delete other people's hard work in the future. Konman72 21:08, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Buffy article up for Featured nomination

Hi. Thanks for the heads-up. As you may have noticed I have pretty much disappeared from the Buffy scene, and the reason for that is indeed I had a wonderful vacation way back when and when I came back to my computer, I found I'd lost the motivation for updating the massive Buffyverse pages. I wish I could be a better fan, but so far it's not working well. I posted a message on the nomination discussion article. I forgot to mention there that the infobox could be moved down as the current 3-column view looks a bit tacky. Best of luck! Xiner 19:00, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Regarding the opening; do you think moving the intro text above the table of contents would improve things? At the peer review page, I also asked what you meant about improving narrative order (is it that some sections are too much like lists?). Thanks for the help.
Regarding motivation on Buffyverse work: I know what you mean it is sometimes overwhelming how much there is to do on the Buffyverse pages. I'm planning to do less and less in the approaching months. I feel like I've done my bit already. However I'm just itching for the Wikiproject to have at least one featured article :) -- Paxomen 00:13, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
There definitely should be an intro before the TOC -- probably something that shows the importance of the show. And yes, I find that the sections are currently too much like lists. They should instead flow from one to the next with the help of prose.
Oh, and please stay with the Buffy project. ;-) Xiner 01:08, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
I love what you've done to the article. Bravo. Xiner 18:44, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks dude -- Paxomen 18:47, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Buffy article

Hiya, welcome back from your holiday, I'm just letting people know that 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' is currently under peer review at Peer review/Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I'm hoping it might one day become a featured article. So any comments on how it might be improved upon would be apprecitated. Thanks. -- Paxomen 18:14, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, and thanks also for the heads up. I'll take a look at what people are saying. I started to try and play with that article once ... it gave me a headache ;) - CheNuevara 20:28, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Damn right it's a headache. I hopefully improved the structure by dividing into only 6 key sections; 'Production', 'The show', 'Characters', 'Spinoffs', 'Cultural impact' and 'Series information'. -- Paxomen 00:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you for all your work

Dude, you have done so much great work on the Buffy site - great contributions, dedication, excellent editing, etc. I don't know if anyone is saying it, but you are doing an awesome job. As a buffyfan, I appreciate all your efforts. Well done you! Riverbend 02:49, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] buffy c-e

Hi, thanks for your message. Rather not do it (not really my area); have you gathered a list of good copy-editors in the area of TV/film/popular culture? It's very useful. Try searching for good people in the history of edits for other TV FAs. Is there a related WikiProject? Keeping a list is vital to collaboration and the production of excellent articles. Tony 01:46, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks -- Paxomen 12:28, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Buffy article

I'm flattered that you asked me to do so, and I will take a look at it. However I feel obligated to let you know that most of the wonderful prose of my articles are due to another of other fellows who have helped me out with my articles while I bring them up to FA status. I'm looking at the post from Tony1 above, and I see that he suggested that you find some copy-editors related to the media culture. A wise man, he is........... picky, but wise. Anyway, I will take a look at your article in the next few days and do what I can. But I'm more in your position than you think. I have my own copyeditors that I have coax into copyediting my article. My strong ablities rely in the collection of information, formatting, and finding references. I would give you a list of people, but most of them are only interested in Star Wars related articles. I'd like to suggest to you that you find a few fans of Buffy or Joss Whedon that are strong copyeditors. A good place to start is in a related WikiProject, either for Buffy or perhaps Firefly. :) The Filmaker 04:47, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. I shall ask the WikiProjects, and see what happens. -- Paxomen 12:28, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Have a barnstar

The Original Barnstar
For your contributions Buffyverse-releated articles. I am aware that you already got one, but you deserve another. You truely are a Buffy fan. Michaelas10 (T|C) 21:30, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! - Paxomen 23:48, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Canon stuff

Just a heads-up about the "Original Research" post/discussion on the Buffy Canon page, in case you're interested. Riverbend 15:44, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for letting me know. Pretty busy at the mo but hopefully shall find a bit of time to improve the article so that it might be good enough to stay in the main article namespace. -- Paxomen 01:04, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] References?

I would like to ask you - where did you find the references for the release dates for the DVDs on Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVDs? I've been looking for a long time and I didn't find anything. Michaelas10 (T|C) 08:34, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

The Buffy release dates were filled in on the Buffy article a long time ago. However I found out the Angel release dates, it's quite confusing because the sets are repackaged with new release dates, I originally used old reviews for the DVDs for when they first came out (I saved the links in a file but have lost that file now). But the USA/UK dates (for both Buffy and Angel) can be found at these links:
Thank you for your answer. What are the sources for region 4 (Australia) release dates? Michaelas10 (T|C) 13:07, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
I just searched the history: The info was given by by User:Imjusthappy on 20th March 2006. The change can be seen in : edit and the several edits by the same user immiediately following. User:Imjusthappy may be someone who knows some references, alternatively Australian Google gives the option to just search Australian pages, I had a quick look and couldn't spot the original Australian Buffy dates, but an Australian Buffy fan would have a better knowledge of where to look on Australian web sites.

[edit] Buffy

Hey, I'd love to give it a scan; however, I've been slammed with college work and whatnot, so it might take a few days (I still have to finish working on A New Hope). I'll try my best to get to it in the near future ^_^ — Deckiller 16:56, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

It appears to already be a featured article o.O — Deckiller 17:10, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Ah okay, you just want to polish it up and ensure that it doesn't go on FAR. I'll give it a look when I get a chance ^_^ — Deckiller 17:12, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, there were some suggestions at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Buffy the Vampire Slayer that the prose should be improved (especially from Tony), and the article will only really deserve featured status after an improvement. Because it has officially been through FAC, this isn't urgent, so whenever you are free to look at sections.. I didn't realise you were currently copyediting the Star Wars IV article :) Thanks for helping out, it should really give the article the chance to make front page. My writing skills are by no means superb but I'd be happy any time you'd like a hand copyediting an article for fluidity, spelling and grammar. Thanks -- Paxomen 23:31, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyedit help for a fellow Whedon article!

Hello! Looks like I'm in the same boat you were in last month with the Buffy article (congrats BTW!)-- I just nominated Firefly (TV series) for FAC and Tony also suggested we get a copyeditor - who did you end up finding? --plange 23:37, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

I contacted User:Deckiller, but he is already extremely busy (with both real life and wikipedia) but said he would be willing to look at the Buffy article. I did come across several professional editors (who I haven't yet contacted) who have helped get sci-fi (Star Wars) articles to featured status and I would suggest asking one of these users: User:BrianSmithson, User:Fuhghettaboutit, User:Myleslong. Also if you're interested in a trade, do you fancy giving a complete copyedit for fluidity and grammar to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I can give a complete copyedit to Firefly (TV series) over next few days? -- Paxomen 12:19, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
It's a deal :-) I'll go take a look at it today~ --plange 15:14, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
OK I may need a a few days to give a proper copyedit, but I'll get there :) I will attempt to be bold, and trust in others to bring any of my changes into line if neccessary. - Paxomen 23:41, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Actually I'm glad we're doing this trade because going over yours gave me ideas for the Firefly one. Nowhere do we mention Mutant Enemy and we should; I also liked how you did your production area, and I didn't know about that Espenson article on writing, so I'll try to work that in... I had to leave after doing Buffy, so I didn't get to leave comments on the Talk page, but will do so now... Thanks for your help! --plange 23:46, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
That's great to hear that doing this has been a help. Btw Mutant Enemy is very briefly referenced in the 'Writing' section but the Mutant Enemy article could use some expansion which I'm sure Wikipedians will eventually get around to. I've only started copyediting Firefly article, but am so far really impressed with the citation format, and the content is really interesting, and look forward to doing some more in next few days. -- Paxomen 00:12, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes

I've submitted the list on a peer review a few days ago, which can be found here. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks. Michaelas10 (Talk) 17:20, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for the barnstar, Paxomen. Much appreciated. :)--Nalvage 12:08, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A question

I've seen alot of edits by you on the Buffy/Angel articles, so I decided to drop you a line about something. I have recently been reading over the BtVS episodes and have noticed that episodes that I was sure had articles were there, and now they aren't, i.e., I Robot,... You, Jane, Nightmares, Ted, Phases, just to name a few. Also, some articles have format errors in infoboxes or picture links don't work. I'm realtively new here, but I would like to help out any way I can. I checked on the Wikiproject Buffyverse and saw that several of those episodes had been struck as being completed were actually dead links. I don't know if this is an issue of vandalism or copyright deletion or if they just were not there to begin with. I know that you are very involved with this project so I thought I would see if I could get your input on it. Again, if you need assistance with anything I'd be happy to help out. Peace. Gatorsong 04:56, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Hiya, bit of a long story: In short:
1: In March this year, I emailed BuffyGuide.com web master, and asked if Wikipedia could use the summaries under a 'BuffyGuide' account. I received emails (plural) back from the web master's email accounts confirming this. In these emails I received from her email account (which are still in my inbox), the person who sent the emails back to me, even signed their name as her.
2: Believeing I had the permission to do this, and never even thinking there would be a possibility of any problem, I created the 'BuffyGuide' account and used it only to create brief summaries for episode articles.
3: In past few days, the web master created athe wiki account, User:Actual BuffyGuide, and said that material was taken without permission.
4: User:Centrx became aware of 'Actual BuffyGuide' and deleted many Buffy episode articles
5: I emailed the web master in a state of confusion, (Actual BuffyGuide) she has since emailed me back after finding emails in her own inbox giving permission to me. She has said she was unaware of the emails and that it is most likely that a family member used her email account and pretended to be her (see User talk:Actual BuffyGuide).

User:Centrx is able to return the Buffy episodes even if in their form before March 2006, which would be better than nothing. A fwe others have aklready contacted him, but you could give him a message asking to return the deleted article without the edits by BuffyGuide, or even better, ask him to return the whole article with the 'Summary' section deleted (removing the 'Summary' which is from BuffyGuide.com).

I have emailed 'Actual BuffyGuide' and asked if she too could make the case to User:Centrx to return the Buffy episode articles. - Paxomen 09:20, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

It appears that User:Centrx has been restoring the articles and is now completing them. If we need summaries written for them I'd be happy to help out any way I can. Gatorsong 22:16, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Hiya, yeah any help writing any missing summaries (around 100-200 words) would be very helpful. Also of even more miportance we could try to restore lost material from Google's cache. Google saves records of web sites, and has older versions of wiki articles including the Buffy episode articles before User:Centrx deleted them then returning them to their March 2006 versions (undoing all the work since then). You can find the caches by searching Google e.g. for "Welcome to the Hellmouth (Buffy episode)". Look for the link to the wiki article, then click under the Google link on 'Cached'. You can't edit the page and get the wiki code (it will go the deit page for the current version if you try), but you can copy text direct from the page. I will be starting with the last episodes Centrix altered, then going backwards so starting I wil be starting in Season 2. So you could start from the begining if/when you are free. - Paxomen 10:41, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Hello again, deleted my prev post. I was quite tired and didn't like the way it sounded. Anyway, I'm working on redoing summaries for the Buffy episodes that don't have them. If you could, when you get time, look over the ones that I've done and let me know if that is what the project is looking for, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again Gatorsong 05:07, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Hiya, I looked at your contributions, and they look really good. I'll start a discussion though at Wikiproject Buffyverse in next day to decide on episode structure because it is pointless us putting efforts into certain sections of episode articles, if those sections are subsequently deleted by editors who don't believe certain sections are needed. -- Paxomen 08:56, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vangelis & In the Heavyskies

Hiya, I have just noticed that Vangelis (Buffyverse) & In the Heavyskies were speedily deleted, the latter by you (WP:AfD/Vangelis & WP:AfD/In the Heavyskies). I can see that at present they are not very notable since they are unlikely to see the light of day until at least 2007, and even then it will remain to be seen if they are covered by some notable sources.

However I put a lot of work into the articles, researching them on the web and writing them, and would be interested in using my work, on a Buffy wiki that states openly it does not need the same levels of notability that Wikipedia does (e.g. http://buffy.wikia.com/wiki/Buffyverse_Wiki). Would it be possible for the article to be put onto my user space:

User:Paxomen/In the Heavyskies, User:Paxomen/Vangelis (Buffyverse)

I would have saved the content myself for use elsewhere, but I was never informed about the deletions. Please could you help out.

Thanks -- Paxomen 17:25, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

No problem. They're in your userspace where you requested :-) —Mets501 (talk) 19:31, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks very much -- Paxomen 13:45, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Buffy DVD

Re: Australian Buffy dvd dates. I didn't get them from a website. But from my my old Buffy videos, that had trailers at the start of each tape saying when they would be released. But for season 6/7 I just remembered the dates, since I listed them on my calendar.

Thanks -- Paxomen 13:24, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Buffyverse fictional locations up for deletion

User:KnightLago seems to be putting most of the fictional locations in the Buffyverse up for deletion as fancruft, including The White Room (Buffyverse), Hellmouth (Buffyverse), Hellmouth (Buffyverse), The Magic Box, and Caritas (Buffyverse). Thought the project might like to know. This message has also been posted at the Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Buffyverse Static Universe 23:00, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for alerting me of this. - Paxomen 00:07, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blockage

I've removed the autoblock so you should be ok. It also looks like an NTL proxy not on our list, so I've arranged to have it added to prevent a similar problem with this proxy in future. --pgk 19:29, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks very much - Paxomen 19:36, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Oh my God, you were the one who made that bunny video on YouTube?! Me and my friend frickin love that video! Paul730 01:31, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your content removed from Buffy articles

I've been watching the IP address user 206.223.233.233 remove tons of content from the Buffy articles, some of which I think you added. I started to add back in the things that I could find sources for, but s/he has gone through about 20 episodes and I don't have time to do that for all of them. Could you take a look? Thanks Kweeket 06:13, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. If I get time I will have a look, but more recently I have been pretty reluctant to work on Wikipedia as I'm disappointed with the very kind of edits described and no longer enjoy time behind the scenes of Wikipedia. -- Paxomen 23:31, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm really sorry to hear that; you've done some great work. Kweeket 00:21, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Nancy_Holder.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 11:19, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Dark Congress (Buffy Novel).jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Dark Congress (Buffy Novel).jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
