The Paxton Brothers were an American music group active during the 1970s. Frank and James Paxton grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They began writing and playing music together in the summer of 1971 while living in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

In 1973, they were signed to a personal management contract with Chesley Millikin, then manager of the Grateful Dead and later manager of Stevie Ray Vaughn. For a brief period of time they were joined by guitarist Jim Perry and Ike & Tina Turner bassist Lee Miles, and were billed as Paxton, Paxton, & Perry. Perry and Miles left the group during the first year and the group's name was changed back to The Paxton Brothers.

The Paxton Brothers toured with Ramblin' Jack Elliott, the Jerry Garcia Band, and played club dates with the Sons of Champlin and many others. In 1974 they were signed to a two-album contract with Anchor Records, an English division of ABC Records. Their record was produced by Henry Lewy and included contributions from David Lindley (musician), John Sebastian, and Jim Gordon (musician). Jackson Browne also played a consulting role on the album. The album, titled simply The Paxton Bro., was completed in April 1975. Due to a contract dispute with ABC Records, the album received limited release in the United States and Europe and only two songs on the album, “The First Time Is Always The Hardest” and “Comin’ Into Tucson” received airplay.

The Paxton Brothers disbanded in 1977 to pursue other interests. Frank Paxton lives in Kansas City and James Paxton lives in Koh Samui, Thailand. The Paxtons are first cousins of actor/director Bill Paxton and distant cousins of folk musician Tom Paxton.
