PaxLair (c. 1998) is an online player community providing services in Ultima Online, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. This player-based, non-commercial community creates and maintains a fictional, virtual and realistic statehood of multiple cities complete with government structure, officials, and in-game housing locations.
PaxLair has been a target of fictional stories within the Ultima Online game.[1] The fictional real-time role-playing aspects of PaxLair allow players to apply their creativity in many different ways, from holding online virtual meetings within the game to creating and participating in intricate fictional quests and events. Players are also encouraged to extensively role-play within the game from their fictional character's perspective.[2]
Members of its community received a voice interview[3] and a text-based interview[4] along with recognition by Ultima Online as a fan community.[5]
Members and friends of the PaxLair community are known to use various Internet technologies to enhance their collaboration and interaction. Examples include use of Voice over IP, Internet Forum, Internet Relay Chat, Instant Messaging, and Website.
