Debates About Pawel's Age

1. "1899"--There is no evidence anywhere that Pawel was born in '1899'. This appears to be an invented date, made up by people who, skimming along, may think that "1890" was a typographical error. In fact, "1890" is NOT a typographical error...that is the claimed date of birth. Moreover, if Mr. Parniak joined the army in 1914, it is unlikely he was born in 1899 (underage recruits tend to occur at the end, not the beginning, of a war).

2. "1895"--Because records indicate that Pawel's mother was born in 1875, "1895" is a compromise date that would make her 19 when giving birth in early 1895 and make Pawel 19 when he joined the army in 1914. However, this is an estimate, no document says "1895."

3. "1890"--No document written before 1946 has yet been produced that lists Pawel's year of birth as "1890".

4. NO other unverified claim is given significant mention on the 'official' lists. We have the "longevity claims" page for cases like Mr. Parniak. I think that is more than fair, considering they have no proof.

5. WWI--In fact, I have not seen proof that Mr Parniak did serve in WWI, but his story is that he joined in 1914. Hence, his age is a claim and that claim does not fit real well with the evidence, but still it seems likely that he is well over 100, perhaps around 111.

[edit] Debates about Pawel still being alive

Some are pushing that Pawel died in March 2006, however this is a rumor that was not reported in the press. Comments, anyone?→ R Young {yakłtalk} 19:35, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
