Pavel Prokkonen

Pavel Stepanovich Prokkonen (formerly Prokofiev; July 16, 1909 - July 18, 1979) was a Karelian Soviet politician. He was appointed as the Finnish Democratic Republic's Minister of Karelian Affairs in the Soviet controlled Terijoki Puppet Government in 1940 (under the name Paavo Prokkonen). Later he was the Chairman of the Council of the People's Commissars of the Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic (1940-1947) and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic (1950-1956) ("prime minister" of the republic).
After the Karelo-Finnish SSR was incorporated into the Russian SFSR as the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in 1956, he was the Chairman of the Presidium of the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (1957-1979).
Pavel Prokkonen was awarded with two Orders of Lenin, one second class Order of the Patriotic War, two Orders of the Red Banner of Labour and two Orders of the Badge of Honor.
