I have a PhD in statistics and I have NEVER seen D(X) used to denote the variance of a random variable X. Perhaps in some specialized areas of statistics or probability theory notations differ from what is generally known; what is generally known certainly does not include the D(X) notation that you put in the article titled variance. [edit] Parameter estimation

I see you added some parameter estimation material to lognormal distribution. There are a lot of other probability distribution articles that need a parameter estimation section. I am trying to do that, but any help you could provide would be welcome. PAR 14:28, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
