[edit] Professional Biography
Paul Lomax is technical director at Pod1, the UK’s fastest growing web design and build agency based in London, and been professionally developing websites for over ten years. Paul joined Pod1 in July 2007 from IPC Media, the UK’s largest consumer magazine publishing company, where he reported to the managing director as digital publisher. For the first half of 2007 Paul was responsible for strategy and new product development on a number of projects targeted at a mass-market female audience. He worked closely with IPC’s creative director to set the standard for NPD across the company, introducing user-centred design, information architecture, web 2.0 thinking and agile methodologies.
Prior to this, Paul ran IPC’s 40-strong internal web design and development department, which he formed in 2002. During his tenure as internet technology manager, he introduced open source technologies, CSS and XHTML standards; designed IPC’s PHP-based content management system; and was responsible for launching over 50 websites including Marie Claire, Now, Ideal Home, and Shooting Times. His most recent project was to relaunch the Country Life website, re-positioning it as a premium property portal. This site was built on a new Symfony framework based platform, with Paul getting involved in the open source Symfony project, co-developing its revolutionary output escaping security system.
Paul joined IPC in 2001 and his first major project was to act as technical architect, senior sys-admin and lead-coder for NME.com, migrating the site from Oracle / Vignette to a high performance mySQL / perl platform, saving literally millions of pounds. Before IPC, he was founder and managing director of Max Internet, a web design, build and hosting company based in his home town of Stockport. Paul studied Computing and Information Systems with Management Accounting at the University of Manchester.
In his spare time Paul enjoys cooking, fine wine and dining, Manchester City Football Club, music, films, networking, spending time with his girlfriend, Sarah, and occasionally finds time to blog on his site, twopointoh. He is often found in the middle of a book, usually about technology, management or history with the odd bit of fiction, and follows countless blogs on a variety of subjects. He is a published photographer and journalist.
