I don't know how they get the direction right in the article about Ariel Sharon. I look at the page source (both with "Edit this page" and with "View source" on my browser) and can't see what they did.

On the edit window I use the arrow right key and the cursor moves in the right order but after I save the page the life years show up in the spot where the name written in Hebrew ought to be. I am completely befuddled by this. Robert Happelberg 22:39, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

I see someone else has tried to resolve the date issue (birth and death). Has anyone checked with the powers that be? Dr. Dan 13:34, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Who are "the powers that be"? I've thought perhaps that would be the most credible user in the edit history of the article on Ariel Sharon, or maybe the article on the Hebrew alphabet. Reading that last article I thought maybe HTML character entities would solve the problem. Nope. Anton Mravcek 21:00, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Those powers that be, means someone from the Wikipedia staff with the computer skills to correct it once and for all. Dr. Dan 22:43, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
That would be very much appreciated. And if it's not too much trouble, could they also explain how to do it? There are some other bio articles I'd like to put Hebrew names in. Robert Happelberg 23:27, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Paul Ben-Haim (or Paul Ben-Chaim, in Hebrew  םררח ךב לראפ ) (1897 - 1984) was an Israeli composer. Born Paul Frankenburger in Munich, Germany,

Paul Ben-Haim (or Paul Ben-Chaim, in Hebrew  פאול בן חיים‎ ) (1897 - 1984) was an Israeli composer. Born Paul Frankenburger in Munich, Germany,

So if I understand correctly, all you have to do to get Hebrew text to behave correctly within differently directed text is to type it in using hexadecimal character entities instead of decimal character entities. Wow, that's a big relief. It was a non-logged-in user who actually showed us the way here. Thank you very much. Anton Mravcek 21:53, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
פאול בן חיים‎ (1897 - 1984)
‎ = left-to-right mark ( ‎ )
Then it doesn't matter whether decimal or hexadecimal character entities are used? What matters is that the right-to-left text be preceded by an R2L mark and concluded with a L2R mark?
It would be nice for Wikipedia to have Help:Hebrew like they have Help:Japanese. Anton Mravcek 20:24, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
