OVER & OVER AGAIN
Paulette Dozier teamed up with her producer/arranger pianist Mike Levine to create another unforgettable album, "OVER & OVER AGAIN," launched September 2, 2007. Like her first release, "WITH YOU," this 2007 recording is filled with interpretive standards and originals, but the vigor of this much-awaited CD adds contemporary flair to jazz nostalgia and Paulette “swings” through each song flawlessly.
“OVER & OVER AGAIN” features a host of outstanding musicians including famed tenor sax master Ed Calle on the opening track, “You’ll Never Know,” as well as the renowned Ira Sullivan on flugelhorn highlighting Paulette and Mike’s original jazz waltz, “Together Yet Alone.”
With inspiration from her idol Ella Fitzgerald, Paulette brings forth a familiar Ella sound with her melodic riffs in “You’ll Never Know” and scat phrases in “Let’s Stay Together.” Yet, Dozier stamps all of her songs with stylistic savvy like only she can do as heard in her performance of “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is” and “Saturday In the Park” (by the legendary group Chicago); and in the timeless romantic standard, “All of Me,” where flutist Domenica Fossati performs a light soothing solo.
Without a doubt Paulette’s seductive voice, outstanding phrasing, and power packed performance keeps listeners wanting to hear this album “OVER & OVER AGAIN.”
