Paul di Resta
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Paul di Resta is a race car driver born in West Lothian, Scotland on April 16, 1986. He started his career in karting, racing in various competitive series of karts from 1994 until 2001. He stepped up to the British Formula Renault Winter Series in 2002, joining British Formula Renault full-time in 2003. He stayed there in 2004, also driving some races of Eurocup Formula Renault due to his impressive performances.
Di Resta moved up to race for the Manor Motorsport team in the Formula Three Euroseries in 2005, winning the prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of The Year Award (won by his cousin Dario Franchitti in 1992) that year, and the championship the next, also winning the 2006 BP Ultimate Masters at Circuit Park Zandvoort.
He is tipped to race in Formula One, and if so may join fellow Euroseries graduates Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.
In 2007, Di Resta raced in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM), where Mercedes contracted him. In the Championship he finished 4th overall behind Audi drivers Mattias Ekstrom who won his 2nd DTM Championship, Martin Tomzcyck who finished 3rd and Mercedes team mate Bruno Spengler who finished 2nd in a 2007 car. It is widely believed that Di Resta's Jawa4u.de Persson Motorsport team maybe given a 2008 Mercedes C Klasse as a reward for his exceptional debut season in the DTM championship.
