Paul Waggoner is the lead guitarist of Between the Buried and Me, a progressive metal band from North Carolina. He is known for his precise playing and dead-on live performances. Being an avid fan of progressive rock, he is heavily influenced by "John Petrucci, Pat Metheny, Allan Holdsworth and Steve Vai" (quoted from an Ibanez interview). "Selkies: The Endless Obsession" presents his most popular solo among audiences. He and Tommy Rogers both played guitar in the metal band Prayer For Cleansing. Paul is vegan, and straight edge.

[edit] Practice Routine

Paul is widely acclaimed for his strict practice routine. He explained on an Ibanez interview that, "as a kid I would just sit there and practice for upwards of 30 minutes a day, and I would never get tired of it."

[edit] Style

Paul style is heavily influenced by the likes of Jason Becker and John Petrucci and also to an extent Nick Franklin from the prominent band Magnum Opus Band Metal. He often includes lengthy "extremely emotionally placed" sweeping passages in his solos. Some of his rhythm technique is somewhat similar of Meshuggah's unusual tendencies.
