[edit] History

Paul Trueman had a less-than-reputable past, which often created problems for him in his new life running the Abercorn Bed & Breakfast with his brother, Anthony and acting-father, Patrick.

Barry and Janine's wedding day.
Barry and Janine's wedding day.

Storylines have involved: his relationship with gangster Angel's wife Precious Hudson; a baby left on his doorstep, who proved to be a daughter he was unaware of (Eleanor) but who was taken away by Social Services; his relationship with Janine Evans which inadvertently led to Barry Evans' death; his guilty feelings and subsequent relationship with Natalie Evans, which ended when he revealed his complicity in Barry's death; discovering that his father Patrick was not really his father (Patrick's best friend, Milton Hibbert, fathered him with mum Audrey); as well as his early attempts to emotionally blackmail brother Anthony, because Paul had taken the rap as a teenager for a car accident when Anthony was driving. After surviving all this, Paul decided to leave Walford and join his brother in travelling Europe, after Natalie broke up with him and Janine was jailed for Laura Beale's death. Paul returned to Albert Square to see Patrick and Yolande marry and was persuaded by Anthony (who also returned for the wedding) to stay in Walford.

Paul grassed Andy Hunter to the police for his shady dealings, which would prove to be his undoing as well, as Andy had him killed by The Firm in December 2004. Paul tried to run away, but realised his family would be in danger if he did, and said a tearful goodbye to Patrick, leaving in a taxi; the driver of the taxi was a hitman in disguise, sent by Andy. Paul told Patrick he was leaving for good and wouldn't be seen again. Patrick was not aware that Paul was actually leaving to get killed. Paul's last words, while in the taxi, were "Make it quick, mate".

The story continued a month later, when Patrick wanted to find Paul as he was worried he might be missing after failing to get in contact with him; instead, Patrick discovered Paul had been killed, and identified his corpse. He swore revenge on Andy and eventually got his wish when Andy was killed in February 2005 by Johnny Allen.
