Paul Schuss was born in Münzkirchen, Austria, by the Danube River, in 1948. He came to France in 1949, and he has benefited from a Franco-Austrian cultural upbringing. As an accomplished painter, he has created his own artistic world out of poetry and meditation. Perhaps his inspiration comes from the history of his family, whose origins date back to the 12th century in the Cani della Scalla family of Verona, Italy, and the Von Ash Family from Tyrol, Austria.
As soon as he learned how to hold a pen, he started to draw and paint. At the age of 10, he met the French painter Albert Drachkovitch-Thomas, who discovered his talent and introduced him to the tempera technique. At the age of 19, after beginning law school in Paris, he eventually decided to devote himself entirely to his passion.
Today, Schuss has mastered a great variety of techniques ranging from watercolor to painting, pastel, mixed techniques, drawing, tint, and lithography. He learned the lithography at the world famous Mourlot in Paris. He destroys officially the plates used for his lityographs. So he sells each lithograph with an authenticity certificate.
The impressions conveyed by his works belong to a world of meditation and philosophy as the viewer is presented with a sense of poetic realism and mystical fantasy.
For more than thirty years, Paul Schuss has been exhibiting his work at an international level, in France, Austria, Germany, Japan, England,Monaco, and in the USA (Hawai'i). His work is found in official and private collections all over the world.
Paul Schuss currently lives in Burgundy, France, and loves traveling around the world. He is married to Chantal Garceau and they have two children: Tatiana and Romain.

[edit] Article extract
"The artist leads us into a visionary universe of astonishing poetical force. This romanticism assisted by a perfectly controlled classical technique calls out for meditation, contemplation, contact with the great forces of the sun and of the earth of which the artist seems to pick up the essence, the soul, and the vital urge. The quest of the absolute. It is the pursuit of knowledge, of communion with the divine –this inner sunlight- which haunts this seeker after the music of the spheres, this alchemic story-teller of another time. Thirst for peace, for great spaces lit up with beneficial suns. The thirst for communication too, with the essence of man: the heart and the soul."
La Revue Moderne, 1975, Paris.
