Paul Patrick Chomnycky, OSBM, was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1954, the son of a Ukrainian-immigrant father and Canadian-born mother (both of whom died in 1996)[1] and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelors Degree in Commerce in 1980. After working as an accountant for two years, he entered the novitate of the Order of St. Basil the Great, working in the Basilian monastery in New York.

On the 1st October 1988, he was ordained as a priest of the Order of St. Basil the Great. Then, he continued with further studies in Philosophy at the University of St. Anselm and the Gregorian University in Rome, receiving a Bachelor’s in Sacred Theology in 1990.

On the 5th April 2002, he was appointed Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainians in Great Britain and ordained bishop by His Beatitude Lubomyr Cardinal Husar on 11th June 2002. He was also Titular Bishop of Buffada from 5 April 2002 until 3 January 2006.[2]

On the 3rd January 2006, he was appointed Eparch of Stamford, becoming the bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Stamford in the United States. The current seat of Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainians in Great Britain is vacant.

Chomnycky participated at a protest in November 2004 near the Ukrainian Embassy, in Holland Park Avenue, west London, which was calling for the British Government to support democracy and Yushcenko in Ukraine. [3]
