Paul Manta, (born in Bucharest, 2 June 1943), is a Romanian retired football goalkeeper, who played for Sportul Studenţesc, Universitatea Craiova and Progresul Bucureşti.

Manta was born in the Cotroceni residential area of Bucharest. Firstly he is interested in athletics (high jump and pole-vault) and he trains on the stadium located in Dr. Staicovici Street. One day, the students from the Institute of Physical Education and Sports didn’t have a goalkeeper and turn to him. Coach Cornel Dragusin notices his skillfulness, proposing him to join the youth team Progresul-Bucuresti in the group where I. Kluge was (he was 14 at that time) where he never gives up the ball since that moment on. The end of high school in 1961 brought about the promotion of the admission exam with the Polytechnic University Faculty of Material Science and Engineering, the reason why he had to leave the Sportul Studentesc team (known at that time as “Stiinta Bucuresti”). In the gym halls from “Regie”, coaches St. Miu and M. Maksay introduced him in the team where Ramureanu, Ojoc, Anton, Grecea, Titeica, Fl. Dumitrescu, Cicu, M. He makes his debut in the great team of Progresul on 1st October, 1967, during the game of Dinamo Bacau - Progresul (3-1) under the coaching of Penita Moldoveanu, Florin Stirbei and Cornel Dragusin. At that time, the team also included Matache, Petre Mandru, Colceriu, Adrian Constantinescu, Alexandru Georgescu, Jean Grama, Mandoiu, Marinescu, Viorel Popescu, Peteanu, Mirauta, Al. Constantinescu (Kopa), Neacsu, I. Popescu-R. Ionescu, Alecu, Viorel Mateianu (Portocala), Oaida, Stoicescu, Soangher, Taralunga. During the period spent in the Cotroceni team, Manta had as fellow members players like Andrei, Zamfir, Gherghel, Giron, Tanasescu, Dumbrava, R. Rotaru, Condurache, V. Craciunescu, A. Kassai, Mircea Sandu, Gabi Raksi, Beldeanu, Dumitriu IV, Dinu Iordan, Dudu Georgescu, V. Nastase, Gh. Georgescu, I. Sandu, Filipescu, Bora, Pavlovici, D. Popescu, coached by V. Stanculescu, Al. Karikas and L. Colceriu. As a member of Progresul Bucuresti team he plays 3 editions in Division A and 2 editions in Division B. In 1972, Coaches Constantin Cernaianu and Constantin Otet wanted him in Universitatea Craiova team where Manta plays for two years, winning the second place in the 1972-1973 edition, and the first place in the 1973-1974 edition. In Universitatea Craiova team he plays besides: Ivan, Badin, Oprea, Oblemenco, Boc, Deselnicu, Balan, Costica Stefanescu, Velea, Taralunga, Niculescu, Ilie Balaci, Strambeanu, Berneanu, Nita, Marcu, Kiss, Chivu, Negrila, Pana and Constantinescu, the team which in those years was designated the CHAMPION OF A GREAT LOVE. In the summer of 1974, Manta returns to Progresul Bucuresti team, under the coaching of Viorel Mateianu and Dumitru Baboia where new fellow team members appear: D. Stefan, Nignea, Ploscaru, Petre Victor, Dragu, Marin Moraru, Tevi, Apostol, Dumitriu II, Dragnea and Turbatu. In 1975-1977 joins “Tehnometal Bucuresti” , the team that advances in the 1975-1976 edition in Division B. He accumulated 100 attendances on first stage but he didn’t become a coach, choosing the carrier of metallurgic engineer at Tehnometal Bucharest factory.
