Paul Lawless

Paul Lawless (born July 2, 1964 in Scraborough, Ontario, Canada) is a retired Canadian ice hockey forward.

Lawless started his National Hockey League career with the Hartford Whalers in 1984. He also played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, and Toronto Maple Leafs. He left the NHL after the 1989 season. He played several more years in the minor leagues and in Europe before retiring after the 1999 season. Missed part of 1986–87 season with strained ligaments in right knee, an injury suffered during Hartford's Jan. 7, 1987, game at St. Louis. He did not return to action until Hartford's Feb. 17, 1987, game at Chicago. ... Missed remainder of 1986–87 regular season and start of 1987 playoffs with broken right hand, an injury suffered when he was slashed in front of the net by Claude Lemieux during Hartford's April 1, 1987, game at Montreal. ... Missed part of 1987–88 season with bruised ribs, an injury suffered in November 1987. ... Attended Anaheim's first training camp in September 1993, but did not earn spot on roster because team was concerned he had a slight heart abnormality -- a small hole in his heart that was causing him to tire too quickly. The condition, which he had inherited from his father, who died of a heart attack when Lawless was 13, did not prevent Lawless from resuming play in the minor leagues. TRADE: Hartford traded Lawless to Philadelphia in exchange for Lindsay Carson on January 22, 1988.
