[edit] Series 3
Paul first arrived at Waterloo Road as boy with a troubled background. His mother had died and he was now living with his abusive uncle. Paul decided to join Bolton Smilie's "fight club" so he could learn how to stand up to his uncle. One day, Paul stole a knife from catering assistant Lewis Seddon and went home at lunchtime to confront his uncle, but Jack Rimmer and Eddie Lawson arrived in time to stop him from stabbing the uncle.
Paul has been involved in several story lines since including going on a camping trip with Bolton and several other boys in his year. Paul and Bolton were teams captain on a character-building course and Paul's team won. Shortly after the christmas break, Rachel takes Paul and several others boys on a field trip to a prison[1], although it was only a fake prison with actors afterwards Paul mentions he should go home and revise for his mock exams to Eddie. When Paul's class did not go on work experience some of school began mocking them. Tom suggested they be made prefects and Eddie decided it was a good idea[2]. Paul took his new duties very seriously although misinterpreted Eddie's instructions for example hunting down people who he knew would have cigarettes (who are under-age). Upon discovery he admitted he had wanted to make Eddie proud and assumed that he would be removed as a prefect, surprisingly Eddie said that clearly Paul and the other prefects needed more guidance and that they would give it another go, however nothing has happened since to do with prefects. Later in the season Paul is seen reading a graphic novel of Macbeth to help him understand, Eddie seems genuinely impressed with Paul's attitude. Later that episode Paul is shown keenly answering questions in a maths lesson shortly before Rachel (the headteacher) extracts him and asks him if he wants to leave the 'Lessons for Life' group and go back to the main curriculum which would involve doing GCSEs and all the work that comes with them, Paul was very eager.
